Death of Myer Myers, Esq.
A Sketch Of The Deceased
Norfolk, November 9-Colonel Myer Myers-the British consul of this port, and one of our oldest and most estimable citizens, died last night, in the eighty-eighth year of his age.
Colonel Myers leaves a history behind that could fill many columns. He was a soldier in the war of 1812, and held a commission in the cavalry arm of the service, and was at one time and aid upon the staff of General Wad Hampton, the father of the present Governor of South Carolina. In 1832 Colonel Myers succeeded his brother as consul for Brazil, and also of the Netherlands, and was appointed to this British consulate in 1856 until its close. He was also president of the Bank of Virginia.
At the special request of the deceased, there will be no church service at the funeral on Sunday. The solemn ceremonies will be conducted solely by the Masons.
Staunton Spectator and Vindicator Tuesday, Nov 20, 1877 Staunton, VA
The funeral procession of the late Myer Myers, says the Day Book, was the largest ever seen in Norfolk. Over two hundred masons attended it to pay the last tribute of respect to this
