Cassius A. Boone came to Orlando in 1870 and would leave an historical heritage that lives even to today. He was a direct descendant of the famous Boone Family of Kentucky, whose most historic member was Daniel Boone. C.A.Boone was born 2/2/1850 in North Carolina. He attended Eastman College at Poughkeepsie, NY and upon completion of his studies came to Florida.

Cassius A. Boone moved to Orange County most likely directly after the Civil War.

When he arrived in Orlando he lived with an aunt, Mary Boone Bryson, on East Central Ave. He became one of the first teachers of Orlando's first school, when classes were held in the Union Free Chrich on South Main street. For a time he served as proprietor of Lovell's Hotel, the only one in the settlement. He held the position of deputy clerk of Orlando County for a few years then became on of the town's foremost merchants in establishing a hardware and furniture store at the northeast corner of East Church Street and Orange Avenue, one of the largest in the State. The firm was known as C A Boone and Company with W A Patrick as a partner. In 1875 Mr Boone was one of the incorporators of the Town of Orlando and served the city variously as city clerk, tax assessor and collector, councilman and was elected mayor in 1883. From 1893 until 1907 he conducted an extensive nursery business and developed an early maturing orange, still known in the market as "Boone early".

Boone (spelled "Boon" in the Orange Co. records book) married Sarah Hughey on May 10 1873 in Orange County. Sarah Hughey (1955-1927)daughter of piooneer residents Mr. and Mrs James P Hughey. In 1875 he built a home in the woods on the northwest side of Lake Lucerne, which later became 104 Irvin Street. He cut a road through to Church Street and this became Boone Street which still bears his name. The Boone home was the third largest two story frame house ever built in Orlando and the first to have dormer windows. It was the birthplace and home for many years of the five Boone children who lived to adults: Maude Lelia, Bessie Mae, Grace, Cassius JR and John K Boone.

wife: Sarah F., age: 25, born in Florida, profession: Keeps House
son: Marcus H., age: 3, born in Florida
daughter: Lelia M., age: 4 months, born in Florida

In October 1912 City Clerk Cassius Boone got a shock when a group of prominent women of the town appeard in his office, and asked to be registered to vote in the bond election scheduled for Ocotber 19th. Mr Boone, whose equilibrium was usually well poised and equal to almost any emergency, nearly fell out of his chair. Mrs. Mahlon, Gore, Wescott, Haner, Duke, Greetham, Beardall and Fernandes all demanded the right to vote, since they were freeholders. Boone agreed to register the women but could not put them on the eligible voters list as they were not franchised. In December 1917, after his death, the city of Orlando adopted a resolution in memory of Cassius Boone, "a man of the strictest integrity and although modest and unassuming, he was a noble man as a city and public officer".
