Son of Col. William Grayson and Eleanor Smallwood.

Graduate of Cambridge University, Lawyer.

Alfred W. Grayson of Mason Co., KY. married Letitia Preston Breckinridge on October 24, 1804, Fayette Co., KY. Eight years after Alfred Grayson’s death she married Gen. Peter Buel Porter.

At the request of George Washington Grayson and others the following Deed was recorded April 12, 1803
Indenture made April 11, 1803; between Edward Maddox of CC on the one part and George Washington Grayson, Robert Harrison Grayson, Alfred William Grayson and Robert Carter and Hebe Carter his wife on the other part, Witnesseth that whereas the said Edward Maddox did in the lifetime of the late deceased General William Smallwood agree to sell and convey to him a tract of land called "Blue Plains" containing 100 acres, and whereas the said Smallwood died intestate and his real estate has been by a commission issued from the CC court duly surveyed, divided, and apportioned among his several representatives agreeably to the provisions of an act of assembly passed at November session 1786, entitled an act to direct descents, and in virtue of the execution of the commission the said tract has been allotted and set apart to the said George Washington Grayson, Robert Harrison Grayson, Alfred William Grayson and Robert Carter and Hebe Carter his wife and heirs of a certain Mistress Grayson deceased who was sister to the deceased General William Smallwood. And whereas Edward Maddox has been paid on account of and in considerate of the sale of said tract the sum of 84 pounds 2 shillings and 2 pence, and the further sum of 52 pounds 17 shillings and 10 pence current money, the first sum by the administrator on the estate of the deceased General William Smallwood and the last sum by the trustees appointed for the purpose of selling and conveying so much of the real estate of the deceased General William Smallwood to pay his debts, and whereas Edward Maddox is willing to convey and make over unto the heirs and representatives of the deceased General William Smallwood the said tract of land agreeably to his contact and engagements by him made and entered into with General William Smallwood in his lifetime. Now Edward Maddox in consideration of 1 dollar current money of the United States paid by George Washington Grayson, Robert Harrison Grayson, Alfred William Grayson and Robert Carter and Hebe Carter his wife in the right of his wife does sell tract "Blue Plains" as tenants in common and not as joint tenants and lying on the north side of the Little Dam and containing 100 acres. Signed Edward Maddox in the presence of and acknowledged before James Freeman, Richard S. Briscoe
April 11, 1803; Elizabeth Maddox wife of Edward Maddox relinquished her right of dower.

(folded sheet) Thomas Bodley and James Hughes bound to Valentine Peers and Alfred W. Grayson Esq. Trustees for Col. Alex D. Orr. 10,000 dollars to be paid to them, "their certain attornies [sic] their Psion Aduion Vapigns." June 4th 1804. Valentine Peers and Alfred W. Grayson by virtue of a deed hold a tract of land given by Alex D. Orr. 18,000 acres. 3,000 if which were sold to General Lee. James Hughes appointed as attorney Signed by Tho. Bodley and J Hughes. Signed and witnessed by Tho. Barr.

1807-1808 Kentucky Secretary of State

Kentucky State Representatives, Lexington, 1809: W.T. Barry, H. Clay, Alfred W. Grayson, Geo. Trotter (elected to fill vacancy by Clay resigning, who went to the United States Senate).

In the Fayette County, Kentucky Circuit Court on March 30, 1811, Hon. Henry Clay filed a complaint against Alfred W. Grayson, that he was owed $1,500.

Brig. Gen. John B. Grayson, son of Alfred W. Grayson, that after his father's death when he was around ten John's mother married Peter Buel Porter.

(Small note) Alfred G. Carter vs V Peers. 15,000 dollars to be paid to Carter by Peers. Nov 21st 1820 Signed by [Aleopy?] Lesh and Morden Pope.

Gravesite Details

Grayson family lived near the Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church and the home of the Breckinridge Family. There was an old Breckinridge graveyard where that the family members were relocated to the Lexington Cemetery.
