US Congressman from New York. He graduated from South Park High School in 1920, spent several years working in the jewelry business, and opened his own store in 1926. He served as a district representative on the Buffalo City Council from 1937 to 1941. In 1941 he was elected as an at-large member of the City Council, serving until his resignation in December 1942. In 1942 he was elected to the US House as a Republican, serving from 1943 to 1945. He opposed creation of the St. Lawrence Seaway, making him temporarily unpopular in his district, and he failed to win reelection in 1944. He returned to his jewelry store and in 1947 won election to the Buffalo City Council. He served until 1950, when he was elected Buffalo's Mayor. Mruk held the mayor's office until 1953. In 1954 he was an unsuccessful candidate for the US House. In the 1950s and 1960s he served as a member of the state Commission on Pensions. Mruk closed his jewelry store in the mid 1970's, and in 1980 he moved to Florida. He returned to Buffalo in 1988, and spent the last years of his life residing in a Lancaster nursing home.
