This portrait, and the information below, are from the CONFEDERATE VETERAN, Vol. 19, No. 3 (March 1911), pp. 132-33. He was born on Apr. 16, 1839, and was studying law when the War Between the States erupted. He served as an officer in the 1st Georgia Infantry, rosing from Lieutenant to Captain, and possibly higher, but his Colonel rank might have been in the U.C.V. He was severely wounded at Malvern Hill and at Second Manassas. He moved to Chattanooga, Tenn., after the war, where he practiced law and was Mayor of that city in the 1870s. He died there on Dec. 14, 1910, according to this source, but was interred here in Georgia.
