Judge SHAW was born in Vevay, {Switzerland County,} Indiana, March 1, 1845, and was educated at Vevay Academy and the Indianapolis Law College. Immediately following his graduation from the Indianapolis college in 1869, he was admitted to the bar of the state and practiced law in Bloomfield until 1883.
Early in 1883 he moved with his family to California and engaged in the general practice of law in Fresno, going to Los Angeles three years later. He was actively identified with the legal profession at Los Angeles until his retirement of few years ago, when he moved to his Glendale home.
From 1889 to 1902 he officiated as judge of the superior court of Los Angeles County, and in 1903 was appointed associate-justice of the supreme court of the state.
