Elected president of South Carolina Loan and Trust Company in 1896, and since November, 1899, president of Peoples National Bank. Also president of Land Pebble Phosphate Company and four building and loan associations. Member of firm of D. Middleton & Company, fire insurance agents. Treasurer and director of Chattanooga, Augusta and Charleston Railroad Company. Director of Bank of Barnwell, Enterprise Bank of Laurens. Charleston Importing and Export Company, Johnston & Crews Company, Charleston Dry Goods Company, Mutual Carpet Company, Smith Mclver and Company, Granby Cotton Mills, Columbia, Courtenay Manufacturing Company, Newry, South Carolina, Alderman two terms, and mayor pro tem one term. Practicing law as member of firm Trenholm, Rhett, Miller & Whaley.
