WILLIAM H. AITKIN DIES

ORGANIZER AND PRESIDENT OF FIRST STATE BANK AT GLADWIN.

William H. Aitkin, organizer of the First State Bank, of Gladwin, died at his home at Croswell Tuesday morning, of last week, and was buried Friday, at 2 p.m.

Mr. Aitkin came to Gladwin in 1903, and first establised a private bank in the office of the Gladwin County Abstract Company. The bank grew rapidly, and a building was erected at present site of the First State Savings Bank. The State Bank of Gladwin was organized, which was later re-organized as a National Bank, and later re-organized as the First State Savings Bank.

Mr. Aitkin was born at Port Sanilac, Michigan, November 16, 1860. He was clerk and book keeper until 1882, when he became cashier of the Sanilac County Bank, at Croswell. In 1888 he was admitted to the practice of law, and engaged in banking and the practice of his profession. He was president of the First State Savings Bank of Gladwin until the recent merger of the two banks at Gladwin and interested in several other banks.

In 1909 he was elected as state senator from the Sanilac district, and was one of the able and leading members of the district.

Mr. Aitkin was a man of parts and of ability, a good citizen, and a leader in his community.
