Vice Consul for the American Diplomatic Mission in Persia, later Iran. Amid religious strife between members of the Baha'i Faith and Muslims, Imbrie and his wife visited a religious shrine. They were warned not to approach the well, as women were present. They respected local traditions, but a mob attacked their carriage. The Americans were dragged out and savagely beaten, and stabbed with a saber. Local police stood by and did nothing. He was taken to the hospital, where the mob continued their attack. He died from his wounds.
Buried with full military honors in Arlington National Cemetery
