After determining to make his home in the county, he returned to Clinton, in this State, and send Barnabus Wilkinson and James S. Brooks to build a new hotel for A. P. Bolton. This was the first framed building in the county, and was situated on the Chicago Road, on the east side of Coldwater River, where the county-seat had first been located..."

Biography:

"Warner, Harvey, Pioneers of Coldwater, Michigan was born at Glenn's Falls, New York, April 5, 1809.

"His parents, Zadoc and Annis [Twist] Warner, had ten children, five sons and 5 daughters.,---- three of whom, one son and two daughters, are now living. His father was a lumberman on the Hudson River. His parents both died at Ballston, New York, when he was thrown entirely upon his own resources.

"He spent but six months in school. Between the ages of ten and fifteen, he was employed on a farm in Pennfield, Monroe County, New York.

"At the latter age, he began to learn the carpenter and joiner's trade. He worked at Rochester, New York, until July 12, 1830, when he removed to the Territory of Michigan, and settled in Clinton, Lenawee County, Michigan.

"In the following winter, he removed to what was then called Green Township, which includes the whole of Branch County. There he worked at his trade for twenty-five years.

"The Indian village of Masonville, which was in Branch Co., Michigan, has since been incorporated in the City of Coldwater, MI.

"Mr. Warner was the first Postmaster of Masonville, having been employed under Jackson, Van Buren, and Harrison.

"He served during the Black Hawk War, under Captain A. F. Bolton, as Ensign of the company.

"The pay he received for his service he invested in forty acres of Government land, giving the Government price, ten shillings per acre.

"In April, 1833, he removed from Masonville to the town of Branch: and, in August, 1855, from there to Coldwater.

"He represented Branch County at the convention which was held at Ann Arbor to take the necessary steps for the admission of Michigan as a State.

"In 1835 he was appointed Magistrate of Coldwater, MI; and, in the spring of 1836, was elected to the position, which he held for twenty-four years.

In 1848 he was made Judge of Probate, and held the office eight years.

"Two years before his term expired, he removed to his farm, which adjoins the city of Coldwater, Mi, where he has been actively engaged in agriculture, and in the manufacture of cider.

"He has always been public-spirited, and has done his part towards all the improvements of Coldwater and Branch Co., MI.

"He is a member of the Masonic Fraternity, and of the Grange.

"During the past twenty years, he has been repeatedly urged to accept positions of trust, but has always refused.

"He is liberal in his religious views, but has, nevertheless, contributed freely to the erection of all the Churches in Coldwater.

"He was brought up under the influence of the old Jeffersonian school in politics, but is now a member of the National Greenback party.

"He married, July 16, 1831, Miss Henrietta Anderson, of Cayuga County, New York.

"They have had seven children--five sons and two daughters--of whom four sons and one daughter are living. Three of his sons are farmers, living in Branch County, MI. The other son resides at Jonesville, Hillsdale County, MI, and is a conductor on the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad. Daughter married Phineas P Wright, Superintendent of Transportation on the Erie Railroad, and resides in Passaic, New Jersey,
