Dr. Phineas Bradley, a practicing physician in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania moved to Washington in 1801. In 1809, he purchased, from John Dixon, a tract northeast of the city called "Powell's Dividend," which he renamed Clover Hill, a tract which later became Glenwood Cemetery.

Dr. Bradley lived at Clover Hill until 1839, when he sold it, and after several transfers it became, Glenwood Cemetery through its Charter by Act of Congress of July 17, 1854.

All of Glenwood's interment records (that don't include monetary transactions) were digitized by LDS and can be found online at FamilySearch.

Unfortunately, the first "Register of Interment" book, which covers the time frame of July 1854-July 1878, was stolen from their office. Finding a burial from that time frame can be done utelizing the alphebetical burial cards and plat book records from the above link.

There is a memorial garden that was constructed over the public lot (originally located at the bottom of Section P). The names of those interred in the public lot are etched on a large black marble wall at the edge of the garden. They are sorted by interment year.
