Research Security & Export Control
Advances in cutting-edge research are critical to the Nation’s position as a thought and innovation leader in the 21st century. Upholding the security and integrity of the national research enterprise relies on the awareness and cooperation of researchers and partners equally committed to upholding core research principles and values such as openness, transparency, integrity, reciprocity and collaboration. Increased federal requirements, such as National Security Presidential Memorandum – 33 (NSPM-33), are in place to strengthen protections of federally-funded research against foreign government interference and exploitation, while supporting responsible international collaboration.
In July 2023, UTK established a Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Ambassador program, in response toNational Security Presidential Memorandum 33 andCHIPS & Science Act. The first cohort of RCR Ambassadors consists of six faculty members from colleges across UTK, including the Institute of Agriculture. They are focused on ensuring a strong Research Security program that safeguards research and meets federal requirements, while supporting collaborative research with international partners. See theRCR Ambassador announcement for more information.
