Bengalid (bengali keeles বাঙ্গালী, বাঙালি (baŋgali ,baŋali )) onrahvas Bengali piirkonnasLõuna-Aasias . Bengali elanikkond on jagunenud kaheks peamiseks piirkonnaks: iseseisev riikBangladesh ning mõnedIndia osad (Lääne-Bengal ,Tripura ,Baraki org ,Goalpara ,Andamanid ja Nicobarid ning osadMeghalaya ,Manipuri jaJharkhandi osariikidest.[ 9] bengali keelt , mis kuulubIndia keelte hulka.Bangladeshi põhiseaduse artikli 6 lõike 2 kohaselt nimetatakse Bangladeshi elanikke rahvusena bengaliteks ja kodanikenabangladeshlasteks .[ 10]
Bengalid on maailmas suuruselt kolmas rahvas pärasthiinlasi jaaraablasi . Nad on suurimindoeuroopa keelt kõnelev rahvusrühm. Maailma bengali diasporaa on välja kujunenud kaLähis-Idas ,Pakistanis ,Myanmaris ,Suurbritannias ,Ameerika Ühendriikides ,Malaisias ,Itaalias ,Singapuris ,Maldiividel ,Kanadas ,Austraalias ,Jaapanis jaLõuna-Koreas .
Bengalid on religioosselt mitmekesine rühm. Umbes 70% neist onmoslemid , lisaks on suurhindude vähemus ning märkimisväärsedkristlaste jabudistide kogukonnad. Bengali moslemid, kes elavad peamiselt Bangladeshis, kuuluvad peamiseltsunni harusse. Bengali hindud, kes elavad peamiselt Lääne-Bengalis, Tripuras, Assamis Baraki orus, Jharkhandis ja Andamani ja Nicobari saartel, järgivad tavaliseltšaktismi võivišnuismi , kummardades ka kohalikke jumalusi.[ 11] [ 12] [ 13] portugallastest meresõitjate järeltulijad, ning bengali budiste, kellest enamik kuulubChittagongi jaArakani baruate gruppi.
