North American organisation 100 Thieves has officially confirmed its rumoured return to Call of Duty with Los Angeles Thieves — taking over OpTic Gaming’s Call of Duty League (CDL) franchise slot to compete beginning in 2021. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.

The LA Thieves roster is Austin ‘SlasheR’ Liddicoat, Kenny ‘Kuavo’ Williams, Thomas ‘TJHaLy’ Haly, and Zack ‘Drazah’ Jordan (substitute).

The CDL franchise slot originally belonged toOpTic Gaming Los Angeles through the Immortals Gaming Club as of October 2019. Shortly thereafter, the brand was sold back to its original founder, Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez.

It is against the rules for an organisation to own more than one franchise in the CDL. Since Rodriguez already owned the Chicago Huntsmen, rumours began to surface that he would sell the Los Angeles slot and that 100 Thieves was the most likely candidate.

100 Thieves got its start in Call of Duty but left the competitive scene in August 2019. At the time, the organisation’s founder Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag stated that they were “just not equipped and not prepared to make that jump.”

Esports Insider says: When 100 Thieves announced it was leaving Call of Duty, it left a lot of fans disappointed. It’s not clear what has changed financially for the organisation since Haag announced their departure last year, but we’re sure glad to see them back.
