La plantillaMultimedia externa permite enlazar artículos medianteenlaces externos, estos son usualmente para acompañar a la sección evitando redundar su contenido con la secciónenlaces externos. Este es equivalente a la de{{Multimedia}} sólo en contenido no alojado enWikimedia Commons.

Leyenda
float
Ubica el archivo en "left", "right" o "center". La plantilla por defecto que muestra a la derecha.
width
Esto debería ser una medida de ancho completo que incluye unidades. Ejemplos:300px,22em,30%. Por defecto es de 258px de ancho.
enlaces externos
Cada archivo que se va ligada debe especificar su tipo y tiene un número diferente, a partir del 1. Por ejemplo, una plantilla que contiene cuatro imágenes y un vídeo que les etiqueta comoimagen1,imagen2,imagen3,imagen4 yvideo1. El atributo tiene un formato libre, por lo que cualquier cantidad de detalles que pueden añadirse. La primera parte de la entrada debe tener el formato de un enlace externo normal, es decir,[http://example.com/image.jpg Descripción de imagen] paraDescripción de imagen. Después de eso, cualquier detalle adicional se puede dar en la misma línea. Vea los ejemplos para más detalles. NOta: Tanto vídeo como imagen pueden llegar hasta 20 veces.
Archivos alojados dentro de Wikimedia
Cuando se desee enlazar a archivos alojados en otras Wikis que permiten la subida de archivos localmente utilizando el Fair Use, se debe enlazar a la página de upload.wikimedia.org para identificarlo apropiadamente (ejemplo: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/pt/6/6a/Will_Smith_tapeia_Chris_Rock.jpg).
