Imi Knoebel, nacidoKlaus Wolf Knoebel (nacido enDessau, 1940[1]), es unartistaalemán. Se le conoce sobre todo por supintura yesculturaminimalista yabstracta.
Desde 1964 hasta 1971, estudió conJoseph Beuys en laAcademia de Arte de Düsseldorf siendo compañeros suyosBlinky Palermo (con quien compartió taller),Jörg Immendorff yKatharina Sieverding.[2]
La obra de Knoebel explora la relación entre el espacio, elsoporte pictórico y elcolor.[3] El estilo y las preocupaciones formales de su pintura y escultura han llevado a que se compare su obra con los principios devanguardia tanto deKazimir Malévich como de laBauhaus[4]
Las obras de Knoebel se conservan en numerosas colecciones públicas, incluyendoDia:Beacon enBeacon (Nueva York), el Fonds Regional d'Art Contemporain (FRAC) enFrancia, el Kunstmuseum St.Gallen enSuiza, el Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen enAlemania y Malmö Konsthall enSuecia.
