Latemporada 1968-69 fue la 89.ª del fútbol competitivo enInglaterra. Esta temporada fue la 72.ª en que se jugó laFootball League, competencia que se convertiría en la más importante hasta la temporada1992-93, en la cual entraría en vigor laFA Premier League que desplazó a la Football League al segundo lugar de importancia en Inglaterra.

Laselección de fútbol de Inglaterra disfrutó de un año muy exitoso en su preparación para laCopa del Mundo de 1970, para la cual estaba calificada automáticamente por ser campeona de laCopa Mundial de 1966. Ganó elBritish Home Championship derrotando a sus tres oponentes y perdiendo un solo partido en el año, contra Brasil, durante su gira por América.
