Projector Screens

Projector Screens
Projector Screens are the most common mode of transport inWasteland.

The screens are on classic tripod frames and show the title and ending cards for an oldWalt Disney cartoon (orSleeping Beauty as the exception, being a full-length film). Jumping into into one of these brings Mickey and Oswald into a linear 2D level based off of the cartoon. The player has to platform through and avoid obstacles to reach the end screen to get to another area in Wasteland. Each Projector Screen contains aFilm Reel that can be exchanged for items at theCinema inMean Street.

In Epic Mickey[]

There are 36 Projector Screens in total in Epic Mickey. There are two instances in the game where Mickey has to choose either one Projector Screen or the other. These are in World of Gremins and in the Throne Room. So, the game must be completed twice to get all 36 Film Reels.

InEpic Mickey 2: The Power of Two[]

Projector Screens reappear inEpic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, with 15 in total, and only based on 7 unique cartoons with one original. But they now have two parallel paths inside for multiplayer, with one on the top and another on the bottom. Using aSpin Move on the gear of the Projector will change which path is taken by Mickey or Oswald, or will change it to an instant Projector which will teleport the player(s) directly to theMean StreetCinema. After a Projector's Film Reel is collected, Mickey and Oswald can turn it in toThe Usher for free fast-travel to any Projector Screen.

Trivia[]

  • There is only one Projector Screen that can never be used inEpic Mickey, beingFantasia Part V. It is at the end ofLoss Tower, but whenthe Blot knocks down the bridge to the exit, the Projector goes with it, leaving Mickey to return to the crumbling tower.
    • Upon closer look at the Projector, a continuous ripple effect animation can be seen, the one that normally plays when Mickey jumps into a Projector.
    • Any reference ofFantasia Part V was removed altogether inEpic Mickey: Rebrushed, as the Projector Screen seen inside the same tower is now always inactive even before the blot destroys it.
  • InEpic Mickey 2,Gremlin Gus explains that the Projector Screens had an upgrade. However, laterGremlin Prescott mentions that Gus refused his plans to upgrade them. This most likely means that Prescott had a plan to upgrade the projectors which was turned down in favor of the current one.
  • Projectors are often placed in levels where they are thematically fitting, such asAlpine Climbers inMickeyjunk Mountain or horror-themed shorts like The Haunted House in theLonesome Manor.
  • In the Japanese version ofEpic Mickey, Mickey can skip backtracking projector screens between the hub worlds. Although Mickey's Steamroller, Plutopia, and Mickey's Mechanical Man can not be skipped during the revisits.
    • This feature was brought back inEpic Mickey: Rebrushed.[1]
  • InEpic Mickey: Rebrushed, all Projectors have a second Film Reel added to them, increasing the total number from 36 to 72.
    • Mickey can also now enter the Cinema on Mean Street or from the Main Menu to replay any Projector that has been played through at least once on that save file, allowing him to collect every Film Reel before revisiting the Usher on a second playthrough.
