According to von Beckerath, fromMeroitic*𐦧𐦢(*pi,“to live”), with the ankh glyph in the name merely serving as a determinative. Leprohon instead interprets the name aspꜣ(“O”) +ꜥnḫy(“living one”), but notes that the reading is uncertain and considers it possible that the ankh is to be read as a prospective form of the verbꜥnḫ(“to live”). In this case the name is indeed simplypy and the ankh is not a part of it.
