Derived from a dialectal verbnestää(to drip, ooze, seep) (compareIngriannestää andLivvinestüö(to get damp)), which in turn is probably derived fromProto-Finnic*nepsä(moist, damp); thus equivalent tones- +‎-tää +‎-e.

Etymology

FromProto-Slavic*ne +*este, second-person plural present tense form of*byti. This formation later created*ne jesmъ in the South Slavic vernaculars, which merged to becomeněste (attested in the 14th century). Because of the yat reflex,něste became rendered asneste in Ekavian speeches.
