• Midsommar can either be pronounced a short first vowel and no/d/, or with (usually) a long first vowel and an audible/d/. The first pronunciation is older and is an example of completeregressive assimilation, where clusters such as-ds- and-ts- were assimilated to-ss-, which also found in the pronunciation of words likeledsen,låtsas,matsäck,skjutsa, and many others. The second pronunciation is newer and have a reintroduced/d/ due tospelling pronunciation. Both are considered standard and correct.
