Blend oflogistic +‎unit, by analogy withprobit, coined by Joseph Berkson in 1944:[1] “I use this term [logit] forlnp/q{\displaystyle \ln p/q} following Bliss, who called the analogous function which is linear onx{\displaystyle x} for the normal curve ‘probit.’”
