Usage notes

[edit]
  • The nounkudos was originally amass noun, but in American English is now sometimes treated as a plural noun, either as aplurale tantum, or as the plural of a new nounkudo, contrary to the original Greekκῦδος(kûdos), which is a singular noun. The American pronunciation implies this plural usage, which many authorities nevertheless consider erroneous.
  • The interjection is related to the noun sense through the idea of "giving kudos to someone", similar to how the interjectionthanks relates to the idea of "giving thanks to someone".
