Cognates includeFinnishkierä(twisted),kiero(twisted).[1][2] For the change of meaning, comparekerget(to chase, pursue,possibly related) andLatinambīre(to go round; solicit, strive) andcircāre(to go about, traverse, wander)Italiancercare(to look for).[3]
