Aromanian

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

FromTurkishhapis.

Noun

[edit]

hapsi

  1. prison

Finnish

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

FromProto-Finnic*hapci, possibly fromProto-Uralic*ëpte, though the appearances of the initialh, as well as the unalternating internal cluster*pc >ps, are unclear (regular development from PU*ëpte would presumably produce Proto-Finnic**apci :**ahten (gen.) and from that, Finnish**apsi : **ahden). On the contrary, seeProto-Finnic*küpci for a similar case of unalternating internal clusters.

Pronunciation

[edit]
  • IPA(key): /ˈhɑpsi/,[ˈhɑ̝ps̠i]
  • Rhymes:-ɑpsi
  • Syllabification(key):hap‧si
  • Hyphenation(key):hap‧si

Noun

[edit]

hapsi(literary)

  1. A singlehair, especially a grey hair of an ageing person.
