Etymology

FromAncient Greekἐπιστήμη(epistḗmē,science, knowledge), fromἐπίσταμαι(epístamai,I know) +-λογία(-logía,study or logic of), fromλόγος(lógos,speech, language). The term was introduced into English by Scottish philosopherJames Frederick Ferrier (1808–1864).
