Etymology

FromMiddle Englishdiafragma,[1][2]Ancient Greekδιάφραγμα(diáphragma,partition), fromδιά(diá,across) andφράγμα(phrágma,barrier), from the verbφράσσω(phrássō). First attested in the late 14th century.[1]
