deiten
FromMiddle High Germandǖden, fromOld High German*diuden,West Central German form ofdiuten, fromProto-Germanic*þiudijaną. The-t- was generalized from the syllable coda, likely under influence ofGermandeuten. Apart from the general lack of the shiftd →t in Luxembourgish, the diphthong[ɑɪ̯] still attests to this, because it developed only before voiced sounds. Further cognate withDutchduiden.
