Usage notes

[edit]
  • The use ofamount for countable things is often considered incorrect, withnumber orquantity being preferred in those contexts. Some go further by restrictingamount to immeasurable things (that is, things that one cannot put a specific quantity to, such as intangibles), and usingquantity for things that can be measured.[1][2][3][4] However, when referring to something uncountable but measurable, the termamount is so widespread that it is generally considered interchangeable withquantity.
