  • Abettor is usually used in a legal sense.
  • abettor,accessory,accomplice. These words denote different degrees ofcomplicity in some deed or crime.
  • Anabettor is one whoincites orencourages to the act, withoutsharing in its performance.
  • Anaccessorysupposes a principal offender. One who is neither the chiefactor in an offense, nor present at its performance, butaccedes to or becomesinvolved in its guilt, either by some previous or subsequent act, as ofinstigating,encouraging,aiding, orconcealing, etc., is anaccessory.
  • Anaccomplice is one whoparticipates in the commission of an offense, whether as principal oraccessory. Thus intreason, there are noabettors oraccessories, but all are held to be principals oraccomplices.
  • (supporter): Nowadays it usually refers to a reprehensible act that is supported.
