Welcome

[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look atHelp:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or createhyperlinks. Feel free to practice in thesandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a shorttutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check outLanguage considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • OurCriteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister projectWikipedia, then you may find ourguide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them toWiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • You are encouraged to add aBabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Apisite (talk)23:50, 20 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Edit warring

[edit]

Before you continue to edit war, continue to the conversation atUser_talk:Nicodene#"Ancient_borrowings"_and_"Learnèd_borrowings"_in_descendants.Gowanw (talk)07:51, 16 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

You talk about edit war yet you remove everything by your own criteria. I have nothing more to talk about such an absurdity, stop thinking you are a cop or something like this, your attitude is toxic.Oigolue (talk)07:52, 16 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

We will contact the admins, no need for further discussison.Oigolue (talk)07:53, 16 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Mass removing edits and then saying they are edit warring when they object isn't the take you thinkOigolue (talk)07:54, 16 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

You may add a list of books and the Aragonese language's features to your user-page.Apisite (talk)02:58, 27 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

satio, sationem

[edit]

This entry title seems wrong. Each entry is for one word. Maybe it should be atsatio instead.Equinox02:11, 12 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Didn't see it existed and also the title, my bad.Oigolue (talk)02:12, 12 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

branda

[edit]

I saw you added an IPA transcription in both Galician and Portuguese entries that implies it is pronounced as braña/branha respectively, where did you get that information, or is that a mistake?Rodrigo5260 (talk)13:58, 12 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

oh yeah its a mistake, thanks and sorryOigolue (talk)14:22, 12 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Careful!

[edit]

I’ve only seen this now, which is kind of late: the Portuguese entries you started making this month have a few issues.

  • First, I recommend you stick to using the{{pt-IPA}} template instead of manually setting a pronunciation with{{IPA|pt}} — the times you’ve done this, there end up being so many excessively narrow transcriptions that it’s hard to grasp any information. Other times, you’ve placed a transcription inside /slashes/ that is clearly non-phonemic. In regards to hyphenation, note thatrr is split between syllables, e.g.,{{hyph|pt|ca|chor|ro}}.
  • Second, I encourage you to use more labels. For example, when mentioning a dialectal synonym in another entry, you can write{{syn|pt|word<q:Northern Portugal>}}. Note that a label{{lb|pt|northern}} is inappropriate (Northern Brazil?), and a label{{lb|pt|archaic|Trás-os-Montes}} is misleading, because it implies the word was only used in Trás-os-Montes and is no longer used.
  • Third, there is a matter of spelling to look into. For example, I really doubtaqueste has an alternative formaquisti (with the stress on the last syllable); or withgemelgo, which does not have an accent. You should make sure to follow regular Portuguese spelling rules instead of those followed by dialectal works (which are often nonstandardpronunciation spellings).

I have cleaned up a few of your entries, which you can see inmy user contributions for reference. I would appreciate it if you could go back to entries you’ve made with these issues and try to improve them.Your contributions are valuable in documenting these Northern dialects, and they could be better by taking more care with these things.

Also, what is this about you being at near-native level in eight languages? Really?Polomo47 (talk)20:40, 20 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
