FromGat +‎Mait +‎-an, presumed to be one of the rulers or nobility of an ancient sovereign polity, known in Chinese records as「麻逸」, read inMandarin麻逸(Máyì) andHokkien麻逸(Mâ-i̍t,literary reading) and historically known through the atonalWade-Giles romanization of Mandarin, “Ma-i”.
