    1. (organic chemistry,physical chemistry) Thethermaldecomposition of anacylazide to anisocyanate with loss ofnitrogengas. The isocyanate then undergoes attack by a variety of nucleophiles such as water, alcohols and amines, to yield a primary amine, carbamate or urea derivative respectively.
