FromMiddle Dutchbrabandere, alsobrabantere, equivalent toBrabant +‎-er. The change from -t- to -d- is unexpected.

The toponym is first attested in 1869 asden Brabander and derives from the demonym. It refers to (one of) the first settlers of the hamlet. CompareHollander.
