FromProto-Italic*ðrā, fromProto-Indo-European*-dʰrom(instrumental suffix), or possibly in some cases fromProto-Indo-European*-dʰlom with subsequent dissimilation of l...l to l...r in Italic. Almost always preceded somewhere in the same word by /l/ or /r/;scatebra is an exception to this generalization.
