𤕘

FromProto-Sino-Tibetan*ʔaj(to go; directional particle) (Schuessler, 2007). It has slowly replaced the older (OC*ɢʷa) (ibid.).Thisetymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term.

In Mandarin this is innovatively pronounced.Schuessler (2007) sees this pronunciationfrom, essentially treating this phenomenon asxundu (訓讀 /训读). WhileSun (2018) sees this innovative pronunciation as having developed phonetically.
