Inherited from the mediaevalByzantine Greekβουνό, βουνόν(bounó, bounón), ametaplasm to neuter of theAncient Greekβουνός(bounós,hill,masculine) of uncertain etymology, probably in accordance to the masculineὄρος(óros,mountain).[1] A connection toβουβών(boubṓn) is very unlikely.[2]
