Possibly a borrowing fromProto-Scythian*gamīra-,*gmīra-(mobile unit),[1] or fromProto-Scythian*gaya-mira-(union of clans).[2] Cognate withNeo-Assyrian𒆳𒄀𒂆𒀀𒀀(KURgi-mir-a-a/⁠Gimirrāya⁠/). CompareOld ArmenianԳամիրք(Gamirkʻ) andBiblical Hebrewגֹּמֶר(Gomer).
