- A special letter marking a more open pronunciation ofō (in words where it has developed from an earlierā).
- This letter is used in reference and linguistic works. In general texts, it is usually simply spelled asō.
- Found only in root-initial syllables.
- Unlike with other vowel letters, no short variant (without a macron) exists.
- The uppercase form would only be theoretically used in all-caps text, but in practice, is not really used.
