Dezhou is a city of 5.7 million people (2019) in the northwest ofShandong, along the border withHebei. Dezhou City is a transportation hub at the intersection of theBeijing-Shanghai and Dezhou-Shijiazhuang railways, and an economic, industrial and trade center in China's Hebei-Shandong border area.

Dezhou City, referred to as "De" and called Ande in ancient times, is a prefecture-level city in the northwest of Shandong Province and the alluvial plain of the lower reaches of theYellow River. As of the end of 2022, the city's permanent population is 5.6 million.
The "virtue" of Dezhou comes from the "virtue of water". Deshui is another name for the ancient Yellow River. In the 3rd year of Emperor Kaihuang's reign in theSui Dynasty (583 AD), "Ande" was changed to "Dezhou".
Dezhou is located in Shandong Province and has a long history. In ancient times, it was affiliated to Qi State, Lu State, etc. It belonged to the Qi State during the Warring States Period, and it belonged to the Qin Dynasty during the Qin and Han Dynasties. During the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, Dezhou was part of Shandong. At the beginning of the 20th century, it became part of the Republic of China and was incorporated into Shandong Province of the People's Republic of China after 1949. Since the reform and opening up, Dezhou City has made significant economic progress.
The climate in Dezhou, Shandong Province is a temperate monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and rainy, winters are cold and dry, and spring and autumn are mild. The overall climate is moderate, but there are large temperature differences between seasons.
Dezhou is connected via the Shijiazhuang-Dezhou railway, Shijiazhuang-Ji'nan HSR, Beijing-Shanghai railway, and Beijing-Shanghai HSR. A small, single-track railway connects Dezhou with Dongying city as well.
The main expressway passing Dezhou is the G3 Beijing-Taipei Expressway, running north–south from it; other provincial expressways, as well as National Highway 104 and 105 offer connections in other directions for Dezhou.
As a prefecture-level city, Dezhou has some unique small activities and traditional celebrations, which mainly reflect local culture and folk customs.
Dezhou has some tourist attractions worth visiting, including natural landscapes, historical sites, and cultural venues.
