Avranches is a town on the coast in the south-west corner ofManche, at the base of the Cotentin Peninsula.Mont Saint-Michel is quite nearby.
The town was liberated by American troops during theNormandy campaign after the D-Day invasion of World War II; there is a monument.
On the A84100 km (62 mi) south-west ofCaen,80 km (50 mi) north ofRennes.
There is some free parking places near the tourist office but it can be difficult to find a space, more spaces available near the Le Jardin des Plantes.
