Stories of past glories or of past wrongs are useful tools in the present but they, too, often come at the cost of abusinghistory. Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—theUnited States of America was suddenly and deliberatelyattacked by naval and air forces of theEmpire of Japan. And this morning the Japanese attackedMidway Island. Japan has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Pacific area.
