Zolotinka (Russian:Золотинка;Yakut:Золотинка) is anurban locality (anurban-type settlement) inNeryungrinsky District of theSakha Republic, Russia, located 73 kilometers (45 mi) fromNeryungri, theadministrative center of the district,[2] in the southern reaches of the Aldan Highlands, on theKholodnikan River, close to where it flows into theIyengra, atributary of theTimpton. As of the2010 Census, its population was 552.[3]

Etymology

The name "Zolotinka", which literally meansa gold flake in Russian, refers to the gold reserves found in the area.

History

Zolotinka was founded in the mid-1970s in conjunction with the construction of the railway linking theBaikal–Amur Mainline to the town of Neryungri.[citation needed]Urban-type settlement status was granted to it in 1977.[2] With the completion of the railway, and gold mining activities not as successful as it had been hoped, the majority of inhabitants left during the 1980s.

Administrative and municipal status

Within theframework of administrative divisions, theurban-type settlement of Zolotinka[1] is incorporated within Neryungrinsky District as theSettlement of Zolotinka.[2] As amunicipal division, the territories of the Settlement of Zolotinka and the Settlement ofNagorny are incorporated within Neryungrinsky Municipal District asZolotinka Urban Settlement.[4]

Transportation

Zolotinka has a railway station on theAmur–Yakutsk Mainline.
