Xian Zhi Soon (Chinese:孙先志; born 1985)[1][2] is an Australian politician. He is a member of theAustralian House of Representatives representing theDivision of Banks for theAustralian Labor Party. At the2025 Australian federal election, he defeated the sitting memberDavid Coleman, who had held the seat since 2013.[3] Soon first contested the seat in the2022 federal election, losing to Coleman.[4]
Soon was awarded theYoung Australian of the Year in the ACT in 2008, and worked as a diplomat inAfghanistan.[5] Soon also worked in theBehavioural Insights Team, a UK-basedsocial purpose corporation known unofficially as the "Nudge Unit", was the youngest ever appointee to the New South WalesBoard of Studies, and worked in the prime ministerial office ofKevin Rudd.[6]
