Zhatay (Russian:Жата́й,IPA:[ʐɐˈtaj];Yakut:Сатай, Һатай,romanized: Satay, Hatay) is anurban locality (anurban-type settlement) under the administrative jurisdiction of thecity of republic significance ofYakutsk in theSakha Republic,Russia, located on the left bank of theLena River, 15 kilometers (9.3 mi) downstream of Yakutsk. As of the2010 Census, its population was 9,504.[4]

History

Previously calledZhataystroy (Жатайстрой), it was grantedurban-type settlement status and renamed on April 28, 1948.[3]

Administrative and municipal status

Within theframework of administrative divisions, theurban-type settlement of Zhatay[1] and elevenrural localities are subordinated to thecity of republic significance ofYakutsk, which is an administrative unit with the status equal to that of thedistricts.[2] As amunicipal division, Zhatay is incorporated asZhatay Urban Okrug.[5] Yakutsk and the eleven rural localities are independently incorporated as Yakutsk Urban Okrug.[5]
