Zeev Suraski (Hebrew:זאב סורסקיpronounced[ze-evso-raski]) born February 18, 1976, is an Israeliprogrammer,PHP developer[1][2] and co-founder ofZend Technologies. A graduate of theTechnion inHaifa,Israel, Suraski andAndi Gutmans created PHP 3 in 1997.[3] In 1999 they wrote theZend Engine, the core of PHP 4, and foundedZend Technologies, which has since overseen PHP advances.[4] The name Zend is aportmanteau of their forenames, Zeev and Andi.
Suraski is an emeritus member of theApache Software Foundation, and was nominated for theFSF Award for the Advancement of Free Software in 1999. Zeev Suraski was theChief technology officer forZend Technologies until he left the company in August 2019.[5]On October 17, 2018, he announced his intention of leavingZend Technologies[6] asRogue Wave Software, which acquiredZend Technologies in 2015,[7] decided to change the strategic focus of the company.Since August 2019 he's theChief technology officer ofStrattic.[5]
He was the lead contributor to PHP from 1997 onwards.[8]
