Zackary Lowell Stentz is an Americanwriter andproducer of film and television,journalist,novelist, andteacher, best known for his work onMarvel properties with former writing partnerAshley Edward Miller.[1][2]
Stentz graduated fromUC Santa Cruz with a degree in journalism. As a journalist, he wrote and edited for publications such asThe Economist,Esquire,Sports Illustrated, andEntertainment Weekly.[3] In addition, he was an environmental activist forEarth First! in the early 1990s.[4]
After graduating from UC Santa Cruz with a degree in journalism,[5] he worked forMetro Silicon Valley, writing about television, books and popular culture, as well as the Sonoma County Independent (now theNorth Bay Bohemian)[6][7] In 1997, publisherDan Pulcrano tapped Stentz to oversee Metro's rebranding and launch of its San Francisco monthly, The Metropolitan.[8]
After turning to screenwriting full-time, from 2000 to 2015 he worked with writing partnerAshley Edward Miller, beginning withGene Roddenberry'sAndromeda. As a team, they co-wrote the filmsX-Men: First Class, theMarvel Cinematic Universe filmThor, andAgent Cody Banks.
He and Miller did some of the initial work on the project that becameTop Gun: Maverick, a sequel to the 1986Tom Cruise filmTop Gun, released in 2022. As writer and producer, he worked on theNetflix science fiction adventure filmRim of the World (2019), directed byMcG.
He has written and produced multiple television programs, including Gene Roddenberry'sAndromeda,The CW'sThe Flash,Fox'sFringe, andFox'sTerminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. He also created and developed a forthcoming animated show based on a popular franchise for DreamWorks, Universal, and Netflix.
He has several projects in development, including television programs forSkydance Television,Warner Bros., andHBO, as well as theDC superhero filmBooster Gold at Warner Bros. and a remake ofBig Trouble in Little China at Fox.
Additionally, he co-wrote the acclaimed young adult novelColin Fischer, and is currently writing an adventure/thriller entitledNevermore.
He also teaches screenwriting in the United States and in China. He was a guest of the Wutianming Foundation inTianjin, and of Wanda Studios inBeijing, where he taught young Chinese screenwriters the tricks and techniques of writing American action movies.
A native ofFort Bragg, California, Stentz was born to a father of German and Irish descent and a mother of Lebanese descent[citation needed] and has described himself as half-Lebanese.[9] He has stated that he hasAsperger syndrome, and that two of his three children are alsoautistic.[10][11]
