Zachary Ashworth (born 6 September 2002) is a professionalfootballer who plays as aleft-back forEFL League One clubBlackpool. Born in England, he representsWales internationally.
Ashworth joinedWest Bromwich Albion's academy aged 10.[3] He signed a two-year professional contract with the club in July 2021.[4] He made his senior debut as a substitute in a 2–1FA Cup defeat toBrighton & Hove Albion on 8 January 2022.[5][6] He made his league debut for the club on 30 April 2022 as a half-time substitute for the injuredConor Townsend in a 1–0 win atReading.[7] On 6 July 2022, Ashworth signed a new three-year contract with West Bromwich Albion, which would have kept him at the club until 2025.[8]
On 17 January 2023, Ashworth joinedLeague One clubBurton Albion on loan until the end of the season.[9] He made his debut for the club on 28 January 2023, in a 2–0 win againstOxford United.[10]
On 20 July 2023, Ashworth joined League One clubBolton Wanderers on a season-long loan.[11] He scored on his debut for Bolton in a 1–0 win overBarrow in theEFL Cup on 8 August 2023.[12]
On 27 June 2024,Blackpool announced the signing of Ashworth, on a three-year deal from West Bromwich Albion, for an undisclosed fee.[13] He made his debut for the club on 13 August 2024, in a 4–0 win against Burton Albion in the EFL Cup.[14]
In January 2025, Ashworth joinedScottish Premiership sideRoss County on loan until the end of the season.[15] He made his debut for the club on 18 January 2025, in a 3–2 defeat toLivingston in theScottish Cup.[16]
Ashworth scored his first goal for Blackpool, againstNorthampton Town in League One, on 24 January 2026.[17]
Ashworth was called up to theWales under-21 squad in March 2022 for the2023 European under-21 Championship qualifying matches againstSwitzerland andBulgaria.[18]
Ashworth is the son of formerWest Bromwich Albion andManchester United sporting directorDan Ashworth.[3] He grew up as a West Bromwich Albion supporter.[7] His younger brother, Finn, turned professional atWolverhampton Wanderers in 2024.[19]
