TheHouse of Ypsilantis orYpsilanti (Greek:Υψηλάντης;Romanian:Ipsilanti) was aGreekPhanariote family which grew into prominence and power inConstantinople during the last centuries ofOttoman Empire and gave several short-reignhospodars to theDanubian Principalities.
First mentioned in 1064, the family was originally from thePontus region in theBlack Sea. They became prominent during theEmpire of Trebizond. In 1655, Antiochus Ypsilantis leftTrabzon and settled in Constantinople. Since the end of the Ottoman Empire, members of the Ypsilanti family can be found all over the world.
