District in Hokkaido, Japan
Yoichi District in Shiribeshi Subprefecture.

Yoichi (余市郡,Yoichi-gun) is adistrict located inShiribeshi Subprefecture,Hokkaido,Japan.[1]

As of 2004, the district has an estimatedpopulation of 28,213 and adensity of 47.93 persons per km2. The total area is 588.64 km2.

History

Yoichi developed as an agricultural area in the 1870s.[1] Some of the first Japanese apple tree orchards were created here, with assistance from US American farmers (there are no native apple species in Japan).[1]
